Moll’s Fashion Picks for Emmys 2015

Well, no matter how talented, famous or beautiful they are, the stars did not have the power to turn down the heat on Sunday at the 2015 Emmys in Los Angeles. Yes, in heat that seemed to match the heat of the hot stars on the red carpet, all of the Emmy nominated actors and actresses, and their peers, tried to stay cool in spite of temperatures getting up into the low 100s! Chock it up to their experience and training, but these pros made feeling hot look like a breeze. Here are my picks for “The Mollys” – my awards for the best dressed at The Emmys this year.

Emmy’s Sweethearts: Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gina Rodriguez and January Jones

Maggie reminded us of old school Hollywood in her black and purple Oscar de la Renta gown with a sweetheart neckline. Classic, while still being fun, it incorporated one of my favorite colors, purple, while channeling a classic princess feel.

The enchanting Gina Rodriguez was a walking confection in her Lorena Sarbu gown and Forevermark Diamonds.

And, January Jones felt like a welcome Palm Springs pretty jetsetter in her gorgeous green Ulyana Sergeenko pantsuit.

Best Heavy Metal: Kerry, Christina and Sofia

Kerry Washington was the best dressed on many a list in her high-slit, well-ventilated Marc Jacobs pewter number.

Christina Hendricks looks like the golden goddess that she is in her Naeem Khan gown.

And, Sofia Vergara just knows how to dress for her body, and do a body good. She always chooses gowns that hug her curves in all the right places, and with this St. John gown, she looks like she was dipped in metal, like the trophy she is.

Best Trend To Expect To See This Fall: Giving The Cold Shoulder

Sarah Hyland turned on the heat, and showed that she is all grown up in her beautiful burgundy Zac Posen gown.

Sarah Paulson took basic black and mixed it in her cauldron with navy and sequins, bewitching us all in her Prabal Gurung off-the-shoulder number.

And, Jessica Lange married her statuesque figure with a J. Mendel gown and a side of super hip sunglasses, with effortless style, as only the inimitable Jessica Lange can do.

Best Old Hollywood Silver Screen Sirens: Lady Gaga and Emma Roberts

Lady Gaga put away all the pomp and circumstance, and gave us glam-glam-glamour in an anything-but-boring Oscar de la Renta dress.

And, Emma Roberts played the part of old Hollywood ingénue in custom Jenny Packham.

Best Dressing Your Age: Kiernan Shipka & Jamie Lee Curtis

Kiernan Shipka proved that while Sally Draper might be all grown up, she still knows how to dress her age in her Dior peplum pantsuit ensemble with Dana Rebbeca Jewelry.

And, scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis, chose a dress as elegant and stately as she is in this black, long-sleeved, figure-flattering, floor-length gown.

Most Whimsical: Zoe Kazan

Zoe Kazan looked as carefree, curious, spirited and whimsical as the characters she plays in her choice of Miu Miu.

Best Carefully Curated Cutouts: Laverne Cox

While cutouts can look cheap when not placed advantageously, Laverne Cox got it all right in alllll the right places in this divine dress by Calvin Klein Collection.

Best Not So Basic Black: Aubrey, Julia, Taraji and Julie

Aubrey Plaza showed that black can sizzle in this Alexandre Vauthier high-slit plunge, accompanied by a dark mani.

While Julia Louis-Dreyfus showed off her shoulder in SaFiYAA and cooled things down with Chopard jewels.

And, Taraji P. Henson showed us both her hard and soft sides in Custom Alexander Wang.

But, we can’t forget the hilarious Julie Bowen being anything but funny in her George Chakra abstract mermaid gown.

And, last but certainly not least…

Best Dressed Male: Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm looked like the (now) Emmy-winning leading man that he is in this gorgeous black and blue tux. And, while Don Draper may have woken up many a time a little black and blue after drunken rumbles, this is one black and blue look, we can stand behind with stars in our eyes.
