It feels like spring has just sprung, and yet the summer is right around the corner. So, how do we take our wardrobe from ready-for-spring-showers to enticing the sizzlin’ summer heat? Well, I have a few ideas on that.
Textured shorts. Shorts are big this summer. Just walking into Nordstrom, you see the cute crop tops and casual tees paired with strong floral and brocade prints. These TopShop high-waisted embroidered shorts ($70) are the ultimate in summer fun, but also make a bold statement, so be sure to go super simple with the top, opting for solid colors, such as cream, black or that emerald green in the shorts, themselves. It really can be as simple as pairing them a white v-neck tee, because the shorts deserve all the attention.
Military. Perhaps it’s all of the holidays in the summer, honoring our servicemen, but military style is a must this coming season. It can be as simple as a lightweight army jacket, like this Kersh Four-Pocket Military Jacket ($98), or as stylized as a true Top Gun-style jumpsuit. Ralph Lauren’s cargo pants are one of my go-to’s that can be paired with just about anything for a cool look.
Pops of lace and boho chic. The runways were all about boho chic from Chloe to Valentino. Bring on the bohemian look with lightweight pheasant tops, lots of crochet, a little lace, and even a touch of fringe for that laid back summer feel. While you might not feel like bridesmaiding it up in all lace, a “pop” of lace can be the ultimate in sexy femininity this summer. This Free People Seminyak Square dress ($168) is the perfect dress to show a little skin and that subtle pop of lace, while still looking sexy. It also makes for a super chic bathing suit cover!
Bold, flowy sundresses. The ultimate way to dress like a lady in the hot summer months, a bright hued or bold flower printed dress, like this Alice & Olivia Clare dress ($698), makes a statement when you enter the room. Keep your makeup simple and classic, and pair with a bold lip to create the perfect summer look.
