Moll Must: Easy, Breezy Beach Fashion in 7 Easy Steps

Living in Malibu this summer, feeling the sand beneath my toes, and smelling that ocean breeze has definitely affected my fashion sense. And, since we’re in the height – and heat – of summer, I thought you might enjoy tips on how to take that same beach fashion sense with you, wherever you’re headed this summer. The best part? It can be accomplished in just 7 simple steps.

Let your swimsuit make a statement. When you live on the beach, you can never have too many swimsuits. But, for the rest of us, it’s good to have a choice few with each one making its own unique statement. It is important to have at least one good basic, dark swimsuit for every day. Pack a sexy one piece that makes you feel the fashion that a good swimsuit can bring to the table.

Say “Abracadabra” with a sarong or slack. To turn a basic swimsuit into an instant fashion statement, all you need is a sarong – or slack – with a strategy. For a super casual, laid-black lunch date, go for a solid slack with a drawstring to pair with your suit.  Or top with an effortless sarong for an instant skirt or tunic that covers, while still looking sexy and summery.

CHOOse your sandals wisely. I am loving my Jimmy Choos this summer. I have found that they can be dressed up for a dinner date with Charlie, or dressed down with cuffed boyfriend jeans for a beachfront balcony date with Sir Winston.

Tip? When you wear neutral or metallic sandals in summer, be sure to choose a toenail polish color that pops! I’m all about neon coral right now!

Blue jean baby. When you head off the beach for a date on the mainland, keep that relaxed, casual summer style in mind by wearing a ripped, body-con jean, and pair with a killer heel, like I did here. It looks summery, elegant and fun…without looking too “fussy.”

You can leave your hat on. One of my favorite summer fashion staples is the perfect beach hat. I love my black and white fedora to throw on for those bad hair, beach hair days. A wide-brimmed, natural floppy hat just sings summer. Make a dark statement in a black Hamptons-style straw sun hat.  Or one that goes super chic, while staying summery, like a straw Panama-style hat.MollHatHats copy

You’ve got it in the bag. And, I mean you’ve got everything in the bag. The best part of beach fashion? An excuse to carry a big beach bag around all the time, with everything you need in there and more! Lucky for us, beach bag designers have really stepped up their game this season. Whether you go classic, colorful, designer couture or all-out whimsical, this is the summer of the beach bag.BeachBags

Don’t forget the sunnies! Sunglasses, that is. Aviators with flash lenses scream summer cool. For a luncheon or outside soirée when you need a dressier option, I’ve found that you can’t go wrong with a good cat eye. If it was good enough for Audrey, it’s good enough for us!MollAviators
