Well, there’s one thing you can say about the beauty trends you saw at the MTV VMAs this year: They certainly are FUN!!! From bronzed nude faces to heavily lined eyes, to slicked back ‘dos, blunt cuts and Breck girls, the VMAs had one rule — and that is that “There are no rules.” Just ask the Cover Girl Pre-VMAs Beauty Panel. What was the one thing everyone agreed on as a philosophy for this year’s VMAs? “Let your freak flag fly.” Well, while most of us have jobs and families that don’t allow time for our freak flag to fly as highly as we might like, that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun. Here are a few of my favorite trends from this year’s VMAs that you can try at home…or at least on a fun Friday with friends.
Slicked back locks and glowing nude faces. This beauty is straight up “I just got out of the shower hotness.” The hair is slicked back, the makeup is present, but minimal, and the sex appeal is strong. This is definitely a look you can rock on date night, and I don’t think your husband will object. Watching Demi Lovato perform, and seeing Gigi Hadid on the red carpet, took me right back to Robert Palmer’s iconic “Simply Irresistable” video, back in the ‘80s. And I never even realized how much I had missed it!
Don’t be catty. But, when it comes to emulating VMAs beauty trends, you absolutely should…be catty that is. Just look at the night’s big winner, Taylor Swift. Those cat eyes have stories to tell, and so do her songs!
The bold, the beautiful and the blunt. Blunt cuts were a trend we saw a lot of on the VMAs red carpet, and it’s definitely one we’ll be seeing off the red carpet. From Kylie’s blunt bangs to Ciara’s sassy shoulder-skimming bob, to Iggy Azalea’s blunt collarbone cut, Hollywood is putting niceties aside, and getting blunt.
Bringing us back to Breck. Remember Breck? Well, the VMAs vixens, like Selena Gomez and Tori Kelly, sure did this year. The locks were full, flowing and feisty for a fun, music-filled night. You can achieve this look with a volumizing mousse, applied to towel-dried hair, before blowdrying or airdrying, for a bit of bedhead beauty anytime.
Who needs Prince Charming when you’ve got hair charms? For a little instant whimsy, take the cue from actress Vanessa Hudgens and fashion blogger, Lainey of Fashion Laine, who were utterly charming with charms in their hair.
Moll’s Bag Of Tricks: Gigi Hadid’s makeup artist, Patrick Ta, used Maybelline New York The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette for her sexy, seductive look! That’s one you can try at home, without breaking the bank.
