Thank You For Everything, NASHVILLE!
IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE that it’ s been 11 years since I first appeared on this very page of Nashville Lifestyles. At the time, I was just beginning to find myself and make my career as a designer-lifestyle expert. I need to thank Stacie Standifer for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to write this column; Kitty Moon–Emery for giving me a computer when all I’d ever used was a yellow notepad; Patty St. Lawrence for giving me my first real design job; Dann and Sherri Huff for cutting me loose and letting me paint their ceiling black; Mark and Kathy Wright for letting me use their home as a model showhouse; Bobbie McCloud for being a fabulous design partner; Cindy Games for giving me my first book deal at Cool Springs Press; and most importantly, the love of my life and soul mate, Charlie Anderson! I must thank these Nashvillians and the city itself because these and so many other wonderful, life-changing events happened right here for me.

Wear the room
ARE YOUR HOME AND YOUR WARDROBE saying the same thing? You may not realize that your style isn’t just in the clothes and accessories that you wear, your personality is also reflected in your environment.
Being the “seductive hostess” with the mostest is easy if you keep your plans simple. Choose a signature, themed cocktail to serve to guests upon their arrival. Start the party with trays of sparkling water and a beautifully presented martini. Then, after they’ve been seated, open the full bar. Read on!
Matters of the Heart
IF YOU HAVEN’T HEARD ABOUT THE LATEST SENSATION hitting bookshelves, Fifty Shades of Grey, then let me give you a quick recap inside this widely popular novel: Anastasia Steele, a new college graduate, falls in love with Christian Grey, a handsome, controlling, charming billionaire businessman. Their newfound relationship quickly evolves into a relationship that most of us aren’t so familiar with; Grey seeks out Ana to fulfill his deeply erotic needs.
When reading about Christian and Ana’s romance, the part that got me so excited was the beginning, the love story, the first flicker of intimacy, the teasing flirtation and the joy of the endless possibilities of their new relationship. Read on!
Seductive Living in Color
The warm summer months tend to encourage my craving for bright and cheerful colors—both in my home and closet. I want you to let the desire for fun, fabulous hues take over and allow the zest of radiant shades enliven your days. Literally, start living your seductive lifestyle in color. Celebrities are dyeing their hair all shades of wild—pink, blue, purple, you name it—nail polishes now come in a variety of neons and bolds to pack a punch, and you can walk into your local ZGallerie to discover exciting new home accents that bring a little pizzazz to your space.
For Love of a Dog
I’VE DESIGNED MANY HOMES IN MY LIFE—ADDED the perfect touches for warmth, lit candles to exude invitation and filled my space with seductive luxury through paint choices, sensual fabrics and beautiful furniture. But the most amazing addition I have ever made to my space was bringing Sophie home. She immediately brought a new energy and vibrancy that was completely life-changing. Becoming a pet parent altered my thought process and even led me to adapt my interior design projects, always keeping in mind a “Fido friendly” lifestyle.
The Art of Dining
AS WE SPRINT FORWARD through the year of 2012, let’s not forget the importance of great dining. Virginia Woolf once said that, “One cannot think well, love well and sleep well, if one has not dined well.” I fully attest to her statement because yes, we must all learn the art of dining. Eating and dining are two entirely different things; dining is an art. And I can think of no better way to paint the picture than with a table for two. Think seductive food-togo for a no-stress night. You’re in the perfect place to enjoy this experience, Nashville—a city brimming with masterful restaurants.
Spring Into Action
IT’S NEARLY TIME to spring into spring, and you’d be amazed at just how many people give a whole new meaning to the term “spring fever.” Usually we associate the coming of spring as an exciting shift from the negative effects that winter can have on our minds—we’re cooped up, bundled up and fed up. For most of us, by the time spring rolls around, it is a positive and uplifting change in our lives and homes.
